Empowerment on Display at a 5K
Bellin Women’s Half Marathon & 5K is an amazing event centered around women in our community. 2025 was the 10th anniversary, and the word of the year was EMPOWERMENT. Empowerment looks different for everyone but one of myTEAM TRIUMPH’s longtime Captains, Kayla Kudick, decided to take on an incredible challenge to show how empowered she is.
For the first time, Kayla set out to complete the 5K without the use of adaptive equipment, a goal she had been working toward since April. With a team of empowering women by her side—her Angels—Kayla not only attempted this feat but inspired everyone around her with her strength and perseverance.
Kayla's Journey with myTEAM TRIUMPH
Kayla joined myTEAM TRIUMPH in 2015, participating in the Nicolet Bay 5K as her first official event. Since then, myTEAM TRIUMPH has played a pivotal role in her life, providing a supportive community and opportunities to take on new challenges. As Kayla reflected,
“Mentally, I was scared for my future because I didn’t know what was next after I graduated. myTEAM TRIUMPH became a big part of my success after high school.”
The organization helped her form friendships that feel like family, and it gave her memories she holds close.
Living with Cerebral Palsy
Living with cerebral palsy, Kayla faces daily struggles, but from an early age, she has refused to let these challenges define her. Kayla’s high school friend once described her as a hero, sharing a story about how, despite her difficulties with speaking, Kayla courageously gave a speech in front of her class—showing grace and confidence even when some peers laughed. This determination has guided her throughout life, and it was on full display during the Bellin Women’s 5K.
Kayla's Impact
One of Kayla’s Angels reflected beautifully on the experience, saying:
“This race was all about empowering women, and I don’t know how much more empowering it is than having a team of women with one common goal: GET KAYLA OVER THE FINISH LINE!”
The day was filled with empowering moments, but the energy truly peaked when Kayla walked the first mile on her own two feet. It was a powerful reminder of the strength not only within women but particularly within women with disabilities. The collective effort, love, and support that carried Kayla to the finish line is what myTEAM TRIUMPH is all about.
Empowering Advocate
Kayla’s journey isn’t just about physical challenges—she is also a passionate advocate for disability inclusion. She believes deeply in the importance of visibility for people with disabilities, saying,
“Disability is natural; it doesn’t prevent a person from achieving anything. Believe in your abilities.”
This message, combined with her favorite quote,
“It’s ridiculous to tell anyone they can’t do something because of a disability,” reflects Kayla’s belief that no one should be limited by their circumstances.
The Bellin Women’s 5K was more than a race for Kayla. It was a celebration of her resilience, her community, and the power of women supporting women.
